The Petaluma Police Department paid slightly less than $1,000 for police services at the health-care reform meeting at Veterans Memorial Auditorium on Aug. 31.
“We had eight officers there — three or four already were on duty, and the rest were on overtime,” said Lt. Mike Cook of the Petaluma Police Department. “The total cost was less than $1,000.”
When Cook was asked whether expenses partially were paid by the office of Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, who hosted the meeting, he said, “No mechanics are set up for that type of reimbursement. We supplied officers to provide security for the residents of Petaluma.”
The forum attracted 1,000 people, and although the crowd at times was raucous, no arrests were made.
