A head-on collision on Highway 116 at Occidental Road closed the Graton intersection for about two hours Sunday night while ambulances rushed four victims to a Santa Rosa hospital.
At least two of the victims were thrown from one of the two vehicles, a Chevrolet El Camino and a Geo Metro, that collided about 6:30 p.m.
The accident caused the El Camino to catch fire and the Geo Metro to end up in a nearby vineyard, according to witnesses at the scene.
All four victims were taken to the trauma center at Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa, where two were listed in critical condition and at least one other person was suffering head, neck and back injuries. Information on the condition of the fourth accident victim was not immediately available.
California Highway Patrol officers investigating the accident said they were not immediately available to release identification of the accident victims.
They said wet road conditions at the time of the accident may have played a role in the accident, but they were still investigating whether high speed or other factors, such as driving under the influence of alcohol, were also a factor.
