Wine list

<p>Press Democrat wine writer Peg Melnik scopes out wine lists around the North Bay, looking for good value and the occasional splurge. This week’s picks (prices are retail; restaurant markup varies):</p><p><b>SKN, 2007, Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, $15. </b>A bright, grassy wine, with notes of mango, lime and tart green apple. A hint of apricot and crème brulée. A great value.</p><p><b>Sokol Blosser, 2008 Dundee Hills, Oregon Pinot Gris, $18. </b>Striking, with aromas and flavors of peach, apple, fig and spice. Crisp, yet rich. A very smart pick.</p><p><b>Olson Ogden, 2007 Sonoma County, Napa Valley Syrah, $28. </b>A full-bodied syrah with a good structure. Notes of black cherry, herbs and spice. A hint of plum. Long finish.</p><p><b>Pellegrini’s Milestone, 2006 Sonoma County Red Wine, $45. </b>A complex blend with aromas and flavors of blackberry, black pepper and anise. Layered with great spice notes.</p><p><b>Iron Horse Vineyards, 2004 Ultra Brut, Green Valley of Russian River Valley, $50. </b>Crisp, dry and lively.
