Uma Thurman talks at Mill Valley film fest

The 32nd annual Mill Valley Film Festival will screen 143 films from 41 countries Oct. 8-18 in San Rafael and Mill Valley, but if you’re looking for stars, Uma Thurman is the highlight.

The Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner will be the guest of honor at 6 p.m. Oct.10 at the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael.

The evening will feature a screening of Thurman’s latest film, “Motherhood,” and an onstage interview with the actress, including questions from the audience.

The festival also features appearances by actor Woody Harrelson, star of “The Messenger,” on Oct. 15, and by French actress Anna Karina, director of the new film, “Victoria,” on Oct. 16.

Ticket prices start $12.50. For a full schedule, visit mvff.com. For information, call (877) 874-6833.

AT THEGREEK

Bob Dylan plays

2 shows in Berkeley

How many roads must a man walk down before one of them leads to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley?

The answer, my friend, is not blowin’ in the wind. The answer is that Bob Dylan and his band play Oct. 10 and 11 at the Greek, and the first show is already sold out.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 performance are still available for $50 at tickemaster.com.

Bob’s current tour takes him through Seattle and Portland, Ore., before coming to Berkeley. From there, he rambles eastward to Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago and Detroit.

Meanwhile, his new CD, “Christmas in the Heart,” comes out Oct. 13. Yes, you read that right. A Christmas album by Bob Dylan. Back in the ’60s, who would have ever guessed?

‘AUTUMN MAGIC’

An operatic sampler at Sonoma show

A little bit of Mozart, a pinch of Verdi, a dollop of Donizetti, a taste of Strauss and a sampling of Jerome Kern. The Sonoma City Opera’s “Autumn Magic” on Oct.4 offers hors d’oeuvres-sized portions of some of the greats of the Operatic world.

A group of veterans from the City Opera stage and orchestra pit, including pianist/conductor Mary Chun, soprano Susan Gundunas, mezzo-soprano Bonnie Brooks, tenor Ross Halper, baritone Jason Sarten and trumpeter Daniel Gianola-Norris, present a program of arias, duets and trios from many different operas and operettas.

Tickets are $25 adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for youth 18 and under. They can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 939-8288.

The performance is at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 252 W. Spain St., Sonoma.
