Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday (Santa Rosa time) Santa Rosa's Bill Bradley abandoned his dream of swimming the 21-mile English Channel.

Bradley was pulled from the water after four hours. He had become violently sick to his stomach and could not keep down either food or water.

“I really, really wanted to make it but I had nothing left,” Bradley said by cell phone from Britain.

“We still don't know what caused it. All I know is that my crew in the follow boat had put on their wet suits and were ready to dive in the water to save me. The guess was that I had about one minute before going under (water).”

Bradley, 49, is unsure when he is going to try to swim the English Channel again.
