An equipment truck headed for a Friday evening performance of country music duo Brooks & Dunn at Konocti Harbor Resort in Lake County was involved in a minor crash outside Calistoga early Friday, the result of an overly long trailer, the CHP said.

No one was injured, and damage was limited to a scratched side mirror on an oncoming Honda sedan, authorities said.

But the truck driver was cited for exceeding length limits on Highway 29 over Mount St. Helena and was escorted over the hill into Lake County, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. Friday at Highway 29 and Tubbs Lane when the 2009 Peterbilt sideswiped the Honda, Paulson said.

The two drivers exchanged contact and insurance information and would have gone on their ways had authorities not recognized that the diesel truck was longer than the 65 feet allowed commercial trucks on that portion of highway, he said.

The Brooks & Dunn rig was longer than 70 feet, prompting the ticket for Tennessee trucker John Cooper, who was at the wheel, Paulson said.

Resort personnel said the singers themselves — Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn — arrived safely and were still scheduled to perform Friday night.

“It’s just property damage, and actually, Brooks and Dunn are here already and they are still going to play today,” said a reservation clerk, who gave his name only as James.

Brooks & Dunn are scheduled for a single performance Friday night in the Konocti Field Amphitheatre on Clear Lake.
