Quarterback

B

Shaun Hill threw touchdown passes to Vernon Davis and Josh Morgan and had a passer rating of 104.9. That rating is worthy of an “A.” But a “B” is all you get for 152 yards passing.

Running backs

C

Glen Coffee never got comfortable enough to use his vision to go away from the design of the play. He gained 74 yards rushing on 24 rushes. He also dropped a pass on third down. But his blitz pickup was good.

Receivers

C

Morgan and Davis caught TD passes, but the receivers did not have a great all-around day. Morgan dropped a deep pass and had a pass-interference penalty, too.

Offensive line

D

The holes were not there against a defensive front that the 49ers should’ve dominated. They averaged 3.3 yards rushing, and Hill was sacked four times.

Defensive line

A

Steven Jackson, one of the toughest runners in the business, managed just 3.4 yards a carry on 23 attempts. Aubrayo Franklin had another strong day with four tackles.

Linebackers

A

Patrick Willis was all over the place with eight tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and an interception return for a touchdown. Takeo Spikes added eight tackles, a sack and two tackles for losses.

Defensive backs

A

The 49ers allowed just 108 yards passing against Rams QB Kyle Boller, who rarely found open receivers. The secondary’s coverage also helped lead to five sacks.

Special teams

B

Rookie Scott McKillip recovered a touched punt in the end zone for the only points of the first half. The 49ers did not give up much or get much in the return game.

Coaching/overall

B

It certainly was not pretty from start to finish, but the 49ers turned a close game at halftime into a laugher with 28 points in the second half. The defense was stellar, while the offense continues to scuffle a bit.
