Guerneville-area spot fire brings heavy response

A tiny vegetation fire along Sweetwater Springs Road Monday afternoon sparked public attention as fire engines and a fire helicopter hustled to put it out quickly.
State fire officials said the flames had burned just a patch, roughly 20 feet by 20 feet. But several callers were contacting Cal Fire to report the fire, or check on it’s details, fire officials said.
The fire was reported before 3 p.m. in the remote, rugged area near Armstrong Woods Road and not far from Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve.
The firefighting effort included a fire helicopter, which was pulling water from the Russian River to help put out the flames.
