An early morning car accident on Highway 101 just south of Todd Road left one woman dead and three others with serious injuries, CHP officials said.

According to Bay City News Service, the Sonoma County coroner's office has identified the victim as Maribel Medina, 19, a resident of the Olivehurst community in Yuba County.

The accident occurred at about 1:40 a.m. when a silver 2010 Mazda M3 traveling south on Highway 101 left the west side of the roadway and collided with a tree. It is not known why the sedan left the roadway.

CHP officials said that because of the "circumstances" surrounding the crash, it is unclear who was driving the vehicle.

Officials said the three injured were 19-year-old Alejandro Cano of Santa Rosa, 20-year-old Arnaldo Salazar of Santa Rosa and 19-year-old Alejandra Meza of Rohnert Park.

All three were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries, CHP officials said.

The accident is still under investigation and CHP officials do not know at this time if alcohol was a factor.
