A 43-year-old Santa Rosa man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly fleeing from police and being tackled to the ground by a police dog.
Marcial Anguiano Pena was booked at Sonoma County jail for felony evading a police officer, assault on a police K-9 and resisting arrest.
The incident began at 12:20 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Pena was stopped on Fourth Street in downtown Santa Rosa for a vehicle code violation, police said.
The driver initially pulled over, but then sped away, leading officers on a 5 to 10 minute pursuit.
The suspect eventually lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a light pole at the intersection of South E Street and Maple Ave.
Apparently uninjured, the suspect then fled on foot up an embankment leading toward Highway 12. Police then sent the police dog after him and he was apprehended.
Police said Pena struck the dog during the encounter, leading to the assault allegation against the K-9.
