Sue Sion, the interim principal at Santa Rosa High School appointed to replace the re-assigned Jim Goddard, will receive compensation equal what Goddard was to earn in the post.

Sion, who has retired from Santa Rosa City Schools, will make $551 a day as interim principal. Benefits are not included in her package.

Goddard, whose last day was Friday before being re-assigned to the district office as “Principal on Special Assignment,” will continue to receive his $120,000 in yearly salary, as well as $450 a year in travel compensation.

Sion is not expected to stay in the post through the school year, according to assistant superintendent Pat Crocker. A permanent replacement is expected to be in place by January.

“We will shortly be beginning an extensive recruitment process,” she said.

The opening will be advertised throughout California beginning the first week of November, Crocker said.

District officials have received some backlash for removing Goddard mid-year and transferring him to the district office at full pay, while also paying Sion to manage the Mendocino Avenue campus.

District officials and board members meet tonight to debate potential cuts of $5.6 million for the 2010-11 school year. Another $4.7 million is expected to be cut from the 2011-12 school year.
