Thanks to Elks Club

Editor: We were the guests of an Elks Club member Oct. 23 at the “Veterans of all Wars and Confrontations” reunion held at the Petaluma Elks Club.

It was a truly wonderful and memorable night and I would like all to know how much we (members, guests and special invitees) enjoyed the salute to those who have fought and defended on behalf of the United States of America in the last 70-80 years.

Many of the invitees had come from the various veterans’ homes in the greater Bay Area and we saluted them one and all. What surprised me was that the 10-plus members of the Army Air Corps, including my husband, were there and still alive and kicking.

The Elks Club donated a wide-screen TV to one of the homes and a special award was given to a recent widow of a soldier who was killed in Iraq — a young woman with her son and a family member from Santa Rosa. A professional photographer took a myriad of pictures and I trust that they will be shared with the public at large.

Thanks, Elks Club, for being such a wonderful organization.
