Latin music — but with a macabre twist

Latin music takes a lively, macabre twist at 8 p.m. Saturday when the Santa Rosa Symphony presents Una Celebracion del Dia de los Muertos — a Celebration of the Day of the Dead — at the Jackson Theater.

The collaborative Festival of Remembrance — the first of three chamber music concerts — showcases traditional Mexican melodies by Trio Nuevo Amanecer and Mexican music by the Santa Rosa Symphony Chamber Players.

SONOMA

Celebrate traditional Day of the Dead

The Sonoma Valley honors the departed with a traditional Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead on Sunday with observances and altars.

From 1 to 4 p.m. elaborate altars and sugar skulls in honor of the dead and created by various community groups will be shared at La Luz community center, 17560 Greger St., Boyes Hot Springs.

The observance moves to the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art at 4 p.m. (551 Broadway) with traditional folk music around an altar and ending with a luminaria-lighted procession to the Sonoma Community Center at 5 p.m. for a viewing and lighting of a Community altar followed by refreshments.
