Symmetricom Inc. saw its Santa Rosa-based timing technology business grow 18 percent in the first quarter, as governments spent millions to upgrade their communications networks.
“We’ve seen double-digit growth for two consecutive quarters in this business,” Symmetricom CEO Dave Cote said Tuesday. “Government programs continue to be a leading source of revenue.”
Symmetricom’s Timing, Test and Measurement division, which is headquartered in Santa Rosa, posted first-quarter sales of $19.9 million, up $3 million from the same period last year.
The division, which employs about 100 workers in Santa Rosa, makes super-accurate timekeeping technology for defense, aerospace, telecom, utility and other customers. Accurate timing is critical for computer networks, which must be synchronized to operate correctly.
Earlier this year, Symmetricom won a $4 million contract to supply new technology for the government’s satellite-based global positioning system.
