A tree trimmer fell 40 feet from a redwood tree in Monte Rio Tuesday morning.

The 42-year-old man was flown by medical helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His name and the extent of his injuries weren't available.

“We don't know why he fell,” said Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman. “His belt was still on. He fell straight down on his feet, then slid onto his back.”

The man was working on Moscow Road west of Russian River Avenue with a crew from Davey Tree & Shrub Care, said Baxman.
