Galindo, McFarland pace Panthers' victory

Other first-round NCS winners include Windsor, Elsie Allen, Casa boys, Sonoma girls

Jose Galindo and John McFarland both scored two goals to lead second-seeded Santa Rosa to a 4-0 win over No. 15 Healdsburg on Wednesday in the first round of the 16-team Division I playoffs.

Brad Taylor had six saves for the Panthers (18-3-2), who will host Tamalpais at 7 p.m. Saturday. Wendell Scott had two assists and Will Parente and Isreal Silva had an assist apiece for Santa Rosa. Healdsburg finished its season 10-10-1.

WINDSOR 2, ARCATA 0

Elias Aranda and Dominic Wiggam scored first-half goals to lead the third-seeded Jaguars, the section runner-ups last year, into the quarterfinals. David Mendez and Saul Ochoa had assists and Chris Hernandez posted the three-save shutout in goal for Windsor (14-1-4), which will host No. 11 Casa Grande at 7 p.m. Saturday.

E. ALLEN 3, MONTGOMERY 1

Alex Lemus had a goal and an assist and the No. 5 Lobos (12-8-2) broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two second-half goals. Juan Sanchez and Jorge Alvarez each had goals for Elsie Allen, which will visit No. 4 Terra Linda (14-4-6) at 2 p.m. Saturday. Terra Linda beat No. 13 Piner, 3-1, in the first round.

CASA GRANDE 2, SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1

The 11th-seeded Gauchos (13-8-2) pulled off a mild upset over Sir Francis Drake to advance to the quarterfinals.

TAMALPAIS 4, SONOMA 3

The No. 7 Dragons (15-6-1) ended their season with an upset loss against No. 10 Tamalpais (10-2-6).

GIRLS’ DIVISION I

The No. 7 Dragons (15-6-1) ended their season with an upset loss against No. 10 Tamalpais (10-2-6).

SONOMA 2, EUREKA 0

Elizet Ceja had a goal and an assist and Samantha Lind had a goal as the No. 8 Dragons blanked ninth-seeded Eureka. Karina Davis had an assist for Sonoma (13-7-1), which will visit top-seeded Montgomery at 7 p.m. Saturday.

ARCATA 2, URSULINE 1

The No. 7 Bears fell in overtime in a match at Humboldt State. Ursuline finished the season 12-10. Arcata improved to 14-4-3 and will visit No. 2 Casa Grande at 7 p.m. Saturday.
