Lacrosse signups, softball signups, update on Banister, Camp for a Cure.

Lacrosse signups can be made online

There is still time to register for the Petaluma Youth Lacrosse League.

The league has programs for boys and girls in the first through the eighth grade, as well as openings on its high school programs for both boys and girls in any local high school.

PGSA signups

In-person registration for the 2010 Petaluma Girls Softball Association will be Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Lucchesi Park Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd. Registration will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

PGSA this year will include a new T-ball league for girls 5 and 6 years old.

Registration forms are available at www.petalumagirlssoftball.com. All players must complete a consent-to-play form, a PGSA minor’s information form and a PGSA medical authorization form. New players must bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Registration fees are $95 for one player, $170 for two players and $235 for three players from the same family.

Registration may also be done by mail, by sending registration forms and registration fees by check to: PGSA, P.O. Box 821, Petaluma 94953. New players must include a copy of their birth certificate.

Online registration will be available soon.

Registration ends Dec. 31.

PGSA offers divisions for T-ball (5-6), mini (7-8), rookie (9-10), minor (11-12) and major (13-16) players. Player age is of Dec. 31, 2009.

Banister signs with All-Pro Fastpitch

Former Petaluma High softball standout Samantha Banister has signed a contract to be managed and represented by Maryland-based All-Pro Fastpitch, a division of API Sport Management and Marketing.

Banister will be represented by API for marketing appearances and business development.

APF was established by API to represent elite softball players and promote professional softball.

After leaving Petaluma High, Banister went on to a standout career at the University of Arizona where she was part of two national championship teams.

Banister played last season for the Akron Racers of National Pro Fastpitch.

Camp for a Cure

Camp for a Cure returns to Casa Grande High School Saturday, Nov. 7, bringing top area baseball players and coaches together for a full day of intense baseball instruction.

The annual camp is for youngsters 8-15 years of age. Drop-ins are welcome to join the camp. A minimum donation of $50 per player is asked. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with younger players finished at 1 p.m., while the 13-15-year-olds get longer instruction.

On hand will be several area professional players. Expected to participate are Tommy Everidge of the Oakland A’s, Brandon Morrow of the Seattle Mariners, Louis Ott, Brandon Burgess, Joey Gomes and many others.

Instruction will also be provided by top area college and high school coaches, with help from local high school and college players.

Proceeds from the camp go to the American Cancer Society, Lupus Foundation of America and American Diabetes Association.

Since 2004, the camp has raised more than $40,000 to help combat cancer and lupus.

For adults, there will be a silent auction of sports memorabilia and many other items donated exclusively to Camp for a Cure.
