SANTA ROSA

A noble & savage symphony at Wells Fargo: Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony went to the moon with Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. The noble and savage symphony forms the backbone of the Santa Rosa Symphony’s program this Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Nov. 7-9) at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. Conductor Bruno Ferrandis will lead the all-Dvorak program, which showcases American rising star cellist Julie Albers in Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor. The concerts are 8 p.m. Saturday and Monday, 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets: $28-$55. 546-8742 or www.santarosasymphony.com. 50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

A good month for a fabulous fungus: A single day of food and wine is not enough to celebrate the virtues of the mushroom. Mendocino County goes all out in November for the fabulous fungus with a dizzying array of events. And it’s not all about eating. In addition to mushroom dinners and wild mushroom and wine pairings, there will be performances, mushroom arts, mushroom walks in the woods, a mushroom ID workshop and even a mushroom-themed ride on the Skunk Train. Events take place all around the county. Now and until Thanksgiving. For a complete lineup, check out www.gomendo.com or call (866) 466-3636.

SANTA ROSA

Looking at insects in a different way: Some people just don’t like bugs. But others see insect life as a daily drama most people never notice. “Theater of Insects: Photographs by Jo Whaley,” sets some 40 images of real insects against imaginary backgrounds inspired by old dioramas found in natural history museums. The exhibit runs through Dec. 13 at the Sonoma County Museum, 425 Seventh St., Santa Rosa. A reception for the artist will be held at the museum from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday (Nov. 6). $2-$5; free to kids 12 and under. 579-1500, www.sonomacountymuseum.org.
