Drizzle today, clearing for the weekend

A light rain that dampened the ground and sent drivers sliding along the roadways Friday was expected to persist through the day but clear out by evening, the National Weather Service said.

“It should be winding down by early evening, 5 or 6 tonight, or something like that,” leaving partly cloud skies, forecaster Brian Tettinger said Friday morning.

“It looks like Saturday and Sunday should be mostly clear — probably just a few clouds in the sky, but right now no fog expected,” Tettinger said.

The rain, which started early Thursday in most parts of the North Bay, is not expected to leave much rainfall behind, however — probably will not exceed a tenth of an inch, forecasters said.

And there are no prospects for additional rain in the foreseeable future, Tettinger said, saying, “It looks pretty bleak.”

“It looks like the pattern is pretty active, but there just isn’t a lot of moisture out there to produce any rain,” he said.

In the meantime, the CHP advises motorists to slow down and leave extra space between cars because of slippery conditions.

“We’re seeing a lot of solo spinouts and sliding off the road,” CHP Officer Jon Sloat said Friday morning.

Tettinger said temperatures should remain in the 60s over the next few days, staying right around 60 Friday, then rising a few degrees over the weekend and into the upper 60s at the beginning of next week.

Overnight lows will be in the 40s, he said.
