OAKLAND — It’s bad enough for Golden State Warriors fans that their team got humiliated Friday night. That the beating came at the hands of Baron Davis, Golden State’s former star point guard, likely made it sting a lot more.

BEN MARGOT / APDavis put up 25 points and seven assists in 30 minutes, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to a 118-90 win over the Warriors.
It was Davis’ second game in Oakland since opting out of his contract and signing with the Clippers in July 2008.
“I think that chapter is officially closed,” Davis told the Los Angeles Times. “I’m trying to open up that new chapter and start it here with the Clippers.”
Many of the 18,788 fans at Oracle Arena showed they still have feelings about Davis’ departure, booing him most of the game every time he touched the ball.
Davis and the Clippers (2-4) were bigger, stronger and more aggressive.
The Warriors (1-3), playing with a depleted front line, didn’t have the wherewithal to keep up.
Shooting guard Eric Gordon overpowered the Warriors guards, scoring 25 points despite missing 4 of 10 free throws. Center Chris Kaman had 22 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes.
The Warriors offense never seemed to get into any rhythm, partly because its ball movement regressed. After registering 29 assists in Wednesday’s win over Memphis, the Warriors totaled 18, five coming in a garbage-time fourth quarter.
Guard Anthony Morrow’s 18 points off the bench led the Warriors. Swingman Stephen Jackson had 17 points and six rebounds. Guard Monta Ellis had 14 points and six assists.
The third quarter did in the Warriors again, as they shot 6-for-21 from the field with five turnovers and were outscored 34-16.
Kaman had 12 points in the third quarter and, most important, put the Warriors’ thin frontcourt in foul trouble. Mikki Moore, who started in place of injured center Andris Biedrins (lower back strain), and Anthony Randolph each picked up three fouls in the third quarter, setting up the Clippers’ parade to the free-throw line. In addition to knocking down more than half their shots, the Clippers were 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Davis had 16 points in the third quarter, including back-to-back 3-pointers in the final minute — the latter putting the Warriors behind 91-61 entering the fourth quarter.
In their three losses, the Warriors have been outscored 99-57 in the third quarter.
The Warriors went cold midway through the second quarter, and the Clippers took advantage. After knocking down half of their first 10 shots, the Warriors missed eight of their final 10 and trailed 30-19 after one quarter.
The Warriors led 12-9 after a layup by Kelenna Azubuike at the 7:26 mark. Save for a free throw on a defensive-three-seconds penalty, the Warriors didn’t score again until a Morrow jumper at the 1:50 mark.
What’s more, between baskets, they turned the ball over five times, finishing with seven in the quarter. Things got worse for the Warriors when they couldn’t defend Gordon.
He scored 12 in the first quarter, then scored six during a 12-4 run to open the second quarter.
A layup by Clippers guard Sebastian Telfair put the Warriors down 42-23 with 8:34 left in the half.
Morrow later snapped the Warriors out of their funk with back-to-back jumpers, cutting the Clippers lead to 51-37 inside of four minutes. Ellis and Morrow nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 12-6 Warriors run to close the half. Golden State trailed 57-45 at intermission.
NOTES
Warriors C Andris Biedrins missed the game with a sore back and F Ronny Turiaf missed his second straight due to a left knee sprain.
