A gang member remained in custody Monday in Sonoma County Jail after Petaluma police reported finding him with a loaded handgun, ammunition and marijuana, police reported.
Royce Justin Moorehead, 19, of Eureka was in a car parked at the back of a northern Petaluma restaurant parking lot at about midnight Saturday night. A patrolling officer contacted him and another man in the car, Sgt. Marty Frye reported.
Officers searched the car and found the gun tucked under the front seat of the car. Its serial number had been removed, Frye said.
The search also turned up gang paraphernalia, a box of ammunition and the marijuana, found near the gun.
Officers arrested Moorehead on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm and possessing a firearm with the serial numbers removed.
The passenger, identified as Juan Quintero, was cited on suspicion of possessing marijuana. He was released at the parking lot.
Moorehead’s bail was set at $10,000. He also was identified as a known gang member.
An age or town of residence wasn’t given by police for Quintero.
