The Petaluma Police Department received a special state award for Impaired Driving Prevention in the 2008 California Law Enforcement Challenge.

The award was one of eight special awards given to state police agencies. No other North Bay police agencies won special awards, although the Napa Police Department won the Commissioner’s Award, the top prize given in the CLEC.

Law-enforcement agencies from throughout the state compete against similar-size departments for the awards. The agencies recognized in the CLEC are chosen because they demonstrate the most comprehensive and effective traffic-safety programs through departmental policy, officer training, public information, recognition and enforcement related to speed, occupant restraint and impaired driving.
