Family members of Windsor resident Janine Faloni are struggling to come to grips with injuries that cost her her lower left leg but are grateful for the emergency personnel, friends, church members and others who have rushed to offer support since her accident Thursday.
Faloni, 36, remained hospitalized in critical condition Saturday with severe injuries to both legs.
In a prepared statement Saturday, her family asked for continuing prayers and support.
Faloni's brother, Rob Bisordi, a captain with the Rincon Valley Fire Protection District, said the outpouring of support from colleagues, friends and family - including some traveling to Sonoma County from out of the state and the country - “has been just unbelievable.”
“My sister's the best in the world,” he said.
Faloni, the mother of two young children, was walking down a broad sidewalk at the Raley's shopping center on Windsor's Lakewood Drive when she stepped in front of a wide support post just as an SUV jumped the curb and pinned her against the structure, police and witnesses said.
Her right femur was broken. Her lower left leg was crushed from the knee down and amputated, family members said.
She already has undergone two surgeries.
The driver of the GMC Yukon that struck her, Conrado Fernandez, 80, was not injured in the 10:15 a.m. incident.
Windsor Police have launched an investigation that could result in citation or other actions against Fernandez if it's determined he violated law.
Police said Fernandez, who also lives in Windsor, has cooperated fully. He declined comment when reached Friday.
Faloni, meanwhile, remained Saturday in Memorial's Intensive Care Unit, where family members said she is getting excellent care. They said they are thankful for the continuing attention and treatment she's received from emergency medics and hospital personnel.
“We would like to ask for your continued prayers and support,” the family's statement said. “Please visit your local blood bank.”
