Santa Rosa Community College detectives said Monday they do not have any suspects in the sexual assault of a SRJC staff member last week, said Terry Stewart, Chief of Police.

The police district added extra patrols around Burbank Auditorium after a man allegedly attacked an employee in one of the building's offices Tuesday morning. But Stewart said they may not be able to keep extra patrols on campus.

“This week we're reevaluating if we have the staff to continue doing that,” Stewart said. “We hope to provide high visibility on all of the campus.”

The district supplements its team of 12 sworn officers with student cadets and community service officers, who are regular staff but not sworn officers. Even that additional staff isn't enough, he said.

“Staff shortages are in every police agency as well, it isn't just us,” he said. “It just happens to be an issue to do the regular things that we do and deal with big issues.”

A 59-year-old woman said she was attacked in Burbank Auditorium by a man at 10:30 in the morning. She was able to fight off her attacker and call for help.
