The man arrested on suspicion of trying to rape a pregnant woman in southern Sebastopol will appear in Sonoma Superior Court Friday.

Odalis Solano Rosario, 27, was arrested on suspicion of using a weapon, resisting arrest, attempted rape, penetration with a foreign object, kidnapping, sexual battery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Sheriff deputies were called to Cooper Road near Highway 116 Monday afternoon after a woman fought off a man who tried to rape her outside her home. The suspect fled when confronted by a neighbor. He was arrested the next day hiding under his house after deputies received a tip that he was there.

The woman identified her attacker as Rosario, who lives around the corner from her home on the 2000 block of Highway 116, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Rosario is also a suspect in an assault on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus last week. Rosario is short and stocky, at 5 feet 5 inches tall and 190 pounds, similar to a description of the man who attacked a college employee Nov. 10 at about 10:45 a.m.

“We are putting together some evidence to send to the lab to analyze at this point, but we have done nothing that rules this guy out or says that he's our guy,” said Sgt. John Snetsinger, who investigates sex assault crimes for the Santa Rosa Police Department.

The attack at the college has school officials re-evaluating campus safety.

“The president has reconvened a task force . . . to look at possible safety issues and improvements,” said Leslie McCauley, chair of the theater arts department where the attack occurred.

“Nobody seems afraid, people are just saying, yeah, we need to be more careful and up our game.”

College officials said Wednesday they are checking campus lighting, changing locks and taking other precautions.
