Lakeport man killed in Hwy. 20 head-on

A 49-year-old Lakeport man died early Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 20 in Mendocino County.

He lost control of his 2008 Dodge Ram pickup on a bridge just east of Highway 101 and struck an oncoming 2005 Ford F-550 heading eastbound, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were travelling at about 50 mph, but the the bridge over the Russian River was apparently wet, according to the CHP.

The driver died at the scene of the accident. His name was not released pending notification of his relatives.

The driver of the Ford F-550, Edward Turberville, 33, from Santa Rosa, was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

The crash occurred at about 6:50 a.m.
