A two-car collision that blocked all lanes of southbound Highway north of Rohnert Park late Friday morning was among more than a dozen crashes scattered around the North Coast as rain settled over the region.

The story was the same throughout the Bay Area, where vehicles overturned and other minor injury crashes were called in.

“It's definitely more than usual and probably directly attributable to the rain,” CHP Officer Nicole Pacheco said from the agency's Traffic Management Center in Oakland.

One driver struck a tree at Graton Road and Bohemian Highway in Occidental just before 11 a.m. and had to be extricated, the CHP said.

About a minute earlier, another overturned on Highway 128 and Geysers Road near Geyserville, bringing an ambulance to the scene.

Highway 101 through Marin and Sonoma counties was snarled repeatedly by collisions large and small throughout the morning, including involving as many as four cars just after 11 a.m. that blocked three lanes of southbound Highway 101 south of San Rafael near Francisco Boulevard.

“It's typical any time you have rain,” Pacheco said.

Shortly before 11:27, a two-vehicle crash that flipped a pickup truck onto its side closed all southbound lanes of Highway 101 south of Santa Rosa Avenue, the CHP said.

An ambulance was en route, though reports on injuries were not available in the minutes after the incident..
