Petaluma shopping

EDITOR: In response to Brian Way’s letter extolling the virtues of downtown Petaluma (“Vibrant downtown”, Thursday): I agree that our collection of fine restaurants is wonderful, and it’s great to have a movie theater.
However, if you need to buy socks or underwear, you can’t do it downtown. If you need shampoo, nail polish and a set of drinking glasses, you have to leave town to shop at a department store such as Target. You can make one trip instead of running all over the place, and the selection is better than at the specialty shops downtown. Prices at the little downtown shops are outrageous, and most of the sizes are for juniors.
Your only alternative, if you choose to stay in town, is to travel to the east side to Kmart or Kohl’s. If Target or Macy’s is your preference, get in your car and drive. If you want to see a Target in Petaluma, get rid of the old City Council at the next election.
