A young man who led police on a high-speed chase from San Francisco to Santa Rosa will serve six months in jail under a plea agreement, prosecutors said Monday.

Cody Mittleman, 19, will receive credit for time already served in jail and a medical facility when he is sentenced Jan. 7.

He pleaded no contest to felony evading police in the July 9 chase that led officers over two Bay Area bridges at speeds up to 100 mph and involved two helicopters.

The pursuit ended in the Sky Hawk neighborhood of Santa Rosa after Mittleman's tires were punctured.

Family of the Ridgway High School graduate and Santa Barbara City College student said Mittleman suffered mental issues. He was mistakenly released from a Santa Barbara County facility when he made his chaotic dash north to Santa Rosa.

“Fortunately, no lives were injured or lost in this dangerous car pursuit,” District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua said in a written statement. “We only hope Mr. Mittleman can continue to get the help he needs in order to turn his life around.”
