Taft College again dashed Santa Rosa Junior College’s hopes for a state men’s soccer title with a 1-0 victory on their home field Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, Taft knocked in the eventual game-winning goal.

The Bear Cubs now have three losses in four straight playoff games with the Cougars — all decided by a single goal.

“There’s no room for error in the playoffs. This is one and done. There’s no tomorrow,” Santa Rosa coach Marty Kinahan said going into the game.

Santa Rosa knew playing Taft on the road would be the season’s most difficult game.

Still, the Bear Cubs scored a pair of strong playoff victories, over DeAnza and Modesto. Santa Rosa also was healthier following some injuries late in the season.

Going into the game, Santa Rosa was ranked seventh in the California Community College Athletic Association state poll. Taft was ranked second in the state.

Santa Rosa finished with a record of 13-3-5.

Winners of a third consecutive Big 8 Conference title, the Bear Cubs’ season ended one win shy of a third consecutive trip to the state final four.
