A tip led to the arrest of a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left two people critically injured a week ago in Petaluma.

Darren Valenzano, 25, of Petaluma, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run charges.

Tuesday, the driver of a white Honda sedan heading east on Rainsville Road near Stony Point Road rear-ended a Dodge pickup at about 10 p.m. The force of the collision caused both vehicles to spin out of control.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge suffered injuries and were airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Their injuries were serious but not life threatening, Sgt. Mack Lewis said. Their identities were not available.

The driver of the white Honda fled the scene on foot, and CHP investigators had asked for the public's help in locating the suspect.

Investigators received a tip that the suspect was in Cotati.

After a two-hour search involving five California Highway Patrol units, officers found Valenzano near Old Redwood Highway and Charles Street, Officer Jonathan Sloat said.

Valenzano was booked into Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $30,000.
