A suspect driving a white Ford F-150 pickup led police on a chase Sunday night that spanned across Santa Rosa and ended on Highway 101 in Petaluma.
The chase topped speeds of 90 mph. It ended when the suspect crashed after police used road spikes on Highway 101 to try to puncture his tires, according to police reports.
Both lanes of Highway 101 were closed temporarily as police arrested the suspect at about 9 p.m. near the East Washington Street exit.
The chase began at about 8:30 p.m. near East Robles Avenue and Santa Rosa Avenue in Santa Rosa, according to dispatchers. The suspect fled north on Santa Rosa Avenue and entered Highway 101 at Yolanda Avenue. He exited at Highway 12 eastbound, made a sudden U-turn, and re-entered Highway 101 heading south direction.
Santa Rosa police worked with the CHP and Rohnert Park and Petaluma police to unfurl spikes on Highway 101 near the Petaluma Auto Mall.
The suspect continued to drive, even after one of his tires fell off and reached speeds of 80 mph before crashing near the East Washington Street offramp, according to police.
No additional details were available late Sunday.
