An habitual drunk driver wanted for allegedly evading his parole officer was arrested yesterday at a Santa Rosa homeless shelter.

Wayne Sarver, 44, of Santa Rosa never contacted parole officers when he was released last May after serving a two-year prison sentence for burglary and DUI, said Sgt. Ken Savano, who runs his department's Habitual DUI Offender Stakeout Program and coordinates the Avoid the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force.

The Department of Corrections then issued a warrant for Sarver's arrest for not complying with the terms of his release.

“The reason he came to our attention is that we were checking our repeat offenders lists and his name came up with six priors and that he was wanted,” Savano said. “The officers have been trying to find him for several weeks.”

Petaluma police officers spoke with Sarver's family and friends and eventually found him Tuesday afternoon at the Homeless Services Center on Morgan Street, Savano said.

Sarver was booked into Sonoma County Jail just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon without bail.

The prison board will review Sarver's case.
