EUREKA — Humboldt County has been hit by another aftershock following Saturday's magnitude-6.5 earthquake that caused millions of dollars in damage but only one serious injury.

The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude-3.6 temblor struck offshore at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday about 28 miles southwest of Eureka, the largest city affected by Saturday's quake.

It's among dozens of aftershocks to rattle the region this week.

On Tuesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Humboldt County, saying the scale of the wreckage exceeded the county's ability to respond alone.

In Eureka, officials estimate damage from Saturday's quake at nearly $18 million.

Damage estimates for the entire county have not yet been released. A call to a county spokesman Wednesday was not immediately returned.
