Clearlake officials investigating an unauthorized motor home plugged into the power and water utilities on private land knew from the odors they detected on arrival that someone was cooking methamphetamine inside.
That's the story from Clearlake Police, who arrested the occupant, Timothy Brian Bailey, after observing chemical and apparatus associated with drug manufacturing, they said.
Police, the local building inspector and a code enforcement officer went out late Wednesday morning to the Manakee Avenue property where Bailey, 43, had parked his motor home, authorities said.
They could smell the odor of methamphetamine being made outside the motor home and coming from within when Bailey answered the door, they said.
Members of the California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement also became involved in the investigation, seizing chemicals and equipment for testing, police said.
Bailey, a construction worker by trade, was arrested for suspected drug manufacturing and was booked into the Lake County Jail with bail of $40,000.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Clearlake Police Sgt. Tim Celli at (707) 994-8251.
