The Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, the county's largest non-profit organization of community clinics, announced today that it has closed escrow on a property in Fountaingrove that will become its main medical campus east of Highway 101.

The property, at 3569 Round Barn Circle, is a two-story, 42,500-square-foot building that had been only partially used for office space.

The nearly $17 million project, that includes the purchase of the building, renovation and construction, will transform the 4-year-old building into a health center that offers family practice, preventative medicine and health education for uninsured and under-insured Santa Rosa residents.

The new campus will add another 10,000 patients to the 25,000 patients currently being seen at seven clinics around the city.

The bulk of the funding for the project will come from low-interest financing from the state. In order to leverage that financing, the organization was tasked with raising $2.1 million for the project.

A capital campaign drew major contributions from a number of individuals, foundations and hospitals, including $350,000 from Kaiser Permanente and $100,000 each from St. Joseph Health System-Sonoma County, the Ernest L. and Ruth W. Finley Foundation and Frank and Kathleen Mayhew. The county contributed $500,000 and Sutter Medical Center contributed $250,000.

Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, formerly known as Southwest Community Health Centers, will shutter its family practice campus on Chanate Road, moving the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency to the new Fountaingrove complex.

The group's six other health care sites will remain in their current locations. These are the flagship Southwest Community Health Center on Lombardi Court in west Santa Rosa, Elsie Allen Health Center, Roseland Children's Health Center, Santa Rosa Homeless Clinic, Southwest Adult Day Services and Turning Point Satellite Clinic.
