Petaluma police using new lasar radar devices nabbed 64 drivers Friday, mostly for speeding.

Fifty-three drivers were cited for speeding, said Petaluma Police Sgt. Ken Savano. In addition, four were cited for red light violations, three for talking on cell phones, two for not stopping for pedestrians in marked crosswalks, and two for driving on suspended licenses.

The results of the special speed enforcement operation were released Saturday.

The operation made use of lasar radar units acquired through a state Office of Traffic Safety grant, Savano said.

The enforcement operation was held between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. at a various locations selected for their number of high speed traffic collisions, he said.

Locations included Ely Boulevard and Casa Grande Road in front of Casa Grande High School, Highway 116 and Petaluma Boulevard.
