Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, which is plowing ahead with plans to open a 42,500-square-foot clinic in Fountaingrove this year, on Monday opened a major expansion at its flagship Southwest Community Health Center.

Doctors began treating patients at the Lombardi Court clinic's new 3,340-square-foot wing. The expansion will allow an additional 5,000 patients to be treated at the site.

The expansion adds seven primary care exam rooms and two behavioral-health offices. "The expansion at Southwest Community Health Center will improve access to care for people living in Roseland," said Naomi Fuchs, CEO of Santa Rosa Community Health Centers.

"Our goal is to have same-day or next-day appointment availability by the fall of 2010," she said.

Combined with several other clinics throughout the city, Santa Rosa Community Health Centers, will have the capacity to reach a total of 15,000 patients annually, said Cindy Dickinson, Southwest's chief of clinical services.

Renovations on the health centers' new Fountaingrove campus began this month. The building, located on Round Barn Circle, will replace the Chanate Family Practice Center and host the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency.
