A young Santa Rosa man was stabbed Tuesday night after a group of boys picked a fight with him on a path along the Prince Memorial Greenway, Santa Rosa police reported.

The young man, whose age wasn’t available Tuesday night, was walking with his girlfriend along the path near Olive Park around 7:25 p.m. when five or six teen-age boys approached them, Sgt. Eric Goldschlag said.

The boys were wearing gang attire and yelled gang epithets at the pair, Goldschlag said. They briefly fought with the young man, who was stabbed, Goldschlag said.

The attackers fled and the wounded youth’s girlfriend called 911. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Goldschlag said.

Detectives were still searching for suspects Tuesday night and trying to determine the motive in the assault, Goldschlag said.
