An estimated 450 job seekers braved driving rain in Geyserville Monday to apply for 130 job openings at the soon to be reopened Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

Applicants waited for an hour and a half just to reach the first table to start the application process.

“They were wrapped around the building basically,” said Marlow Daniel, spokeswoman for the winery's parent company, Francis Ford Coppola Presents.

The former Chateau Souverain Winery, which the movie director purchased in 2006, is under renovation and is expected to reopen this summer. New family-friendly features will include a full-service restaurant, tasting room, wading pool, outdoor restaurant, amphitheater and bocce courts.

The winery needs everyone from waiters to cooks to lifeguards before it can open in early July. Winery officials expect to make job offers to about 100 people who attended the event, Daniel said.

The majority of the applicants came for the hospitality jobs, while fewer turned out for the back-of-house positions like busboys and dishwashers, Daniel said.
