Santa Rosa Police will be conducting a Friday night checkpoint to help detect any one who might be driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Involved officers also will be educating motorists about state driving laws and checking for legal driver's licenses, police Sgt. Rich Celli said.

The location of the checkpoint has not been disclosed.

All vehicles passing through may be checked for impaired drivers, police said.

The operation is the first of two consecutive Friday night checkpoints. The second will be held next week, July 2.

Both will run from 7 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. the following Saturday.

The checkpoints are funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
