A baby pygmy owl was found on London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen by a couple who saw two other cars pass over the tiny bird before they were able to remove it from the road. They brought it to Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, which is based on Mecham Road near the county dump. Rescue center volunteers checked him for disease and injuries, and fed him mice every three hours.

Wednesday night, the raptor specialist from Wildlife Rescue returned the owl to a tree near where he was found. After the baby owl called for his parents for about 20 minutes, they were reunited.

Wildlife Rescue has cared for 650 animals this year, including 24 bats, 300 songbirds, three bobcats, four coyotes, 34 foxes, 113 opossums, an otter, 22 skunks, 56 squirrels, 28 rabbits and 63 raccoons. The baby owl was a first for the rescue center.
