A San Francisco woman charged with drunken driving in a crash that killed two Cloverdale women made her first court appearance Friday, surrounded by family and friends.

Lyndsay Murray-Mazany, a 27-year-old real estate assistant, was shaking as she approached Judge Rene Chouteau to answer charges in the Sunday afternoon crash that killed Bev Jones and Nancy “Sue” McBride, both 77.

Murray-Mazany did not enter a plea to the four felony counts, including two of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of drunken driving with great bodily injury. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Her lawyer, Chris Andrian, asked that she be formally arraigned Wednesday morning and prosecutors signaled that they will ask to have her bail increased from $100,000 to $260,000.

“It's a very painful situation for everybody,” Andrian said in the hallway. “These are the hardest kind of cases.”

The CHP said Murray-Mazany was wine tasting with friends Sunday afternoon in Dry Creek Valley and Geyserville when she crashed her SUV into a car carrying five women near Highway 101. Two people in the car were killed and others were hospitalized with injuries.

Murray-Mazany, who was supposed to be the designated driver for her group of four, had a blood-alcohol level of .1 at the scene, officers said. By law, a driver is presumed to be impaired at .08.

She posted bail Tuesday. On Friday, she huddled in the hallway with supporters before making her appearance, her face streaked from tears.

Prosecutor Robin Hammond said she would subpoena jail phone records. Hammond sought a higher bail based on the charges with enhancements.
