A young man suspected in the statutory rape of a 16-year-old teen in Cloverdale was in custody after his arrest Sunday afternoon.

Healdsburg police and Sonoma County sheriff's deputies helped in the arrest of the 19-year-old at about 1 p.m. while he was at work at a Healdsburg store, said Healdsburg Police Corporal Tanya Potter.

His name wasn't initially available Sunday afternoon.

A 16-year-old Santa Rosa girl contacted Cloverdale police on July 18. She said she had been sexually assaulted at a house party in the town on July 16, police reported.

She told officers teens at the party had been drinking to excess, police reported.

She said that as she slept the suspect came into the bedroom, took off both their clothes and raped her. She said she was sexually assaulted twice.

She said she was kept in the bedroom until early morning when he left the house, police reported.

From his description, including tattoos, police were able to identify the man. Officers on Saturday alerted neighboring police agencies to look for the suspect.

Sheriff's deputies working in the north county spotted him Sunday morning. They contacted Healdsburg police, who made the arrest.

He was suspected of statutory rape, rape by intoxicating substance and oral copulation, according to Cloverdale police.
