Fires ignited Thursday afternoon along Highway 101 a few miles north and a few miles south of Ukiah. Shortly after 5 p.m. crews were still working to contain them.
The northerly fire was the smaller of the two — estimated at one to two acres — but it forced the closure of eastbound Highway 20. Westbound Highway 20 traffic was allowed to go north on Highway 101, fire officials said. The fire was reported just before 4 p.m.
The fire to the south burned about 30 acres near Burke Hill Road, according to CalFire. It was reported at 2:24 p.m.
Causes of the fires have yet to be determined.
