Firefighters contain downtown Ukiah blaze

<p>Firefighters from three agencies quickly doused a fire behind a popular sushi bar and two-story commercial building in downtown Ukiah on Thursday morning.</p><p>The blaze broke out shortly after 7:30 a.m. in a long, covered storage area between two brick buildings on West Church Street just of South State Street, Ukiah Fire Operations Chief Kevin Jennings said.</p><p>Once an open breezeway, the area measured 6-to-8-feet across and about 50 feet in length, Jennings said. It was used for storage and waste disposable by Oco Sushi.</p><p>Masonry construction on either side prevented it from spreading, he said.</p><p>The fire “consumed quite a bit of stuff, but it was contained in this space between two buildings,” Jennings said.</p><p>It appeared the fire was likely accidental, though an exact cause had not been determined.</p><p>“My investigators are still there looking through the rubble right now,” Jennings said Thursday afternoon.</p>
