Four contenders have joined the races for school boards in Windsor, Cinnabar, Forestville and Mark West.

The deadline for getting on the November ballot was extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday in 21 districts around Sonoma County because incumbents did not opt to run for re-election by last Friday.

Clay Mitchell, a parent and entrepreneur, is running for the Windsor School Board.

Annette Goltermann, Gaylynne Castleberry Sword and Aaron R. Smith are running for seats in Cinnabar, Forestville and Mark West respectively.

The last minute changes effectively determine the board makeup in both Cinnabar and Mark West where there are now the same number of contenders as seats available.

In Windsor, Mitchell will face off against incumbents Sandra Dobbins and Katy Dillwood, as well as parent and former board member Shari Kirichenko-Egan, parent and teacher Marta Dee, and parent and architect Billy Forrest. They are vying for three seats.

In Forestville, Sword will take on incumbent Ron Abler, as well as consultant Mat Barnes, attorney Max Broome and parent Mary Ellen Palmer.

In many Sonoma County districts, however, there will be no competitive races.

In a number of districts, fewer candidates filled out paperwork than there are seats available: Geyserville, Harmony, Horicon, Kashia, Oak Grove, Old Adobe, Sebastopol, Twin Hills and West Side.

If the number of contenders matches or is less than the seats available, information on the race will not appear on the November ballot, according to the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters.

There will be competitive races in Santa Rosa, Cotati-Rohnert Park and Petaluma.
