Kelseyville firefighters rushed to reports of a vehicle fire along Highway 29 south of Kelseyville late Saturday and found a vehicle engulfed in flames.
A person perished in the fire.
A witness called 911 to report a single vehicle fire in the area at about 11:05 p.m., according to CHP reports.
Crews found the vehicle in the shoulder of the highway near Kelseyville Auto Wreckers.
The burning vehicle also sparked a 90-square-foot vegetation fire. Crews quickly doused both fires and found a body inside the vehicle.
“The response and reaction was very quick but it wasn't quick enough,” said Rian Burnham, an engineer and paramedic with the Kelseyville Fire Protection District.
Coroner officials were called to the scene within a half hour, according to preliminary reports.
The roadway was blocked during the investigation and reopened at about 1:20 a.m., the CHP said.
The person's identity wasn't available Sunday.
