Petaluma firefighters responded to a blaze at the Petaluma Hotel on Washington Street Saturday night.

The 8:30 p.m. fire reportedly started outside of the door to a hotel room. A guest at the hotel extinguished the fire on the exterior of the door, doused the flames with water, according to fire officials.

Automatic sprinklers controlled the fire on the inside of the hotel room door, according to fire officials.

The hotel sustained water damage from the sprinkler system in the room where the fire occurred and the floor below. The total damage was estimated at $5,000.

The fire is under investigation.
