Barrett’s love of Petaluma

Editor: Why am I voting for Teresa Barrett?

Because I know her. I know her as someone who loves Petaluma. I know her as someone who is driven to service, often thankless, as a public servant.

Let’s start with her love of Petaluma. That’s the source of her commitment to serving all of the people of Petaluma and not just those of us who may be voters. She takes the long view. Why is that important to you? Because the vote she casts today not only affects your life, but your children’s lives. It’s the wise stewardship of past councils that makes Petaluma the town I’ve called home for 35 years. Where my wife and I have raised our family. The town our grown children have returned to to call their home.

So that love of Petaluma drives Teresa to public service. But it is her intelligence, tenacity and willingness to do the work that makes her an excellent public servant first as a planning commissioner and now as a council member. I doubt anyone on the council works harder, is more dogged in informing herself of every detail on every issue before the council, is more committed to coming to the right choice for the people.

Please draw your own conclusions. Take the opportunity to watch her in action at council meetings either in person or on public access Channel 28. See for yourself her intelligence, wisdom, fairness, caring and toughness. You will see someone who lives her values honestly and openly.

It’s so easy these days to view everything through the lens of partisanship. That’s not Teresa. She knows it’s about Petaluma, about you and me. Because she is one of us. I thank her for her service. I will vote for her. Get to know her; you will, too.
